Grace of the Peacock

Kalamkari Art form celebrates the union of Ram and Sita. It is believed that King Janaka, Sita's father ordered the entire town of Mithila to employ their artistic skills to decorate the town. Unlike other art forms, these paintings were spontaneous and natural. I have painted this peacock motif in Kalamkari, to celebrate its rich religious and legendary involvement in Indian traditions.
